Dr. Emmanuel Kofi Mbiah
Interim Board Chairman

Dr. Mbiah was appointed to the UMB Board of Directors on November 20, 2020. He is a private legal practitioner and consultant. He holds a Master’s in Marine Management, (M.M.M.) from Dalhousie University, Canada, a Master of Laws, (LL.M.), from the IMO International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI) Malta, where he graduated with distinction and was the recipient of the IMO Secretary General’s Award for Best Overall Performance. Dr. Mbiah also obtained a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration. He obtained his PhD. in Maritime Administration from the World Maritime University, Sweden in 2011.

Dr. Mbiah is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators U.K. (MCIArb) and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. (FCILT)
He started his working career at Ghana Shippers Authority in 1982 as an Assistant Legal Officer and rose through the ranks by dint of hard work to become the Chief Executive Officer in 1998 – a position he held for nineteen years.
He is the immediate past chairman of the Legal Committee of the International Maritime Organisation – a position he held for six years. Served as Chairman of the Union of African Shippers Councils from 2016 to 2017.
Since 2006 till date, Dr. Mbiah has served at various times as a visiting professor at the World Maritime and Lund Universities in Malmo, Sweden and at the IMO International Maritime Law Institute in Malta.

Dr. Mbiah has also served as a resource person and maritime law expert at various international seminars and conferences including Maritime Law seminars for judges in Kenya, Ghana and Nigeria.
As a Management and Business Development Consultant, Dr. Mbiah has offered training and coaching to small, medium and large-size companies and provided guidance for re-engineering of small businesses facing extensive local and global competition.

Dr. Mbiah served on the Boards of the Ghana Community Network (GCNet), the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), the Ghana Maritime Authority, and the IMO International Maritime Law Institute.
He has published articles in local and international magazines and journals.

Mr. Ras A. Boateng
Board Member

Mr. Ras A. Boateng, CFA is a top level professional with over twenty years of broad management experience in Insurance, Fund Management and Investment Banking.
Until May 2010, Ras was the Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) where he served as the key architect and builder of Africa’s first successful social health insurance program.
Prior to joining the NHIA, Ras had held other executive positions such as Deputy Director General (SSNIT -Ghana), Vice President and Director of Investments (Hanover Investments, Inc – USA), Vice President, Debt Capital Markets (Paine Webber Inc., USA), Actuarial Associate, Group Pension & Employee Benefit Services (Connecticut General life Insurance Company—CIGNA, USA).
Ras was educated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology – MIT, where he earned an (MSc. Management with concentration in Finance and Applied Economics); (BSc. Industrial Engineering & Applied Mathematics); University of Illinois – Urbana Champaign (Post Graduate Certificate, Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management).

He co-chaired the National Bond Market Development Committee whose work culminated in recommendations to the Ghanaian government for sovereign credit rating, a global bond issue and a central securities depository (CSD) of the Ghana Stock Exchange. Ras serves as a Director on the Boards of Millennium Insurance Company, and Universal Merchant Bank.
He is a member of the Chartered Financial Analysts Institute and a member of the Boston Securities Analysts Society. Ras is an avid reader of history, philosophy and social development.

Mr. Mawuli Hedo
Board Member

Mr. Mawuli Hedo is an Investment Banker and is currently the Chief Executive Officer of The FirstGroup Ghana Ltd. FirstGroup is a Management Consultancy Firm and a Private Equity Company. Prior to joining FirstGroup Ghana, Mawuli was the CEO of FirstBanC Financial Services. He worked with Strategic African Securities Finance Group prior to FirstBanC. He has been involved in many Corporate Finance deals on the Ghana Stock Exchange.

He led the team in the marketing of the first retail bond in Ghana; the Government of Ghana’s Golden Jubilee Bonds. The Marketing of the Bonds took him to the United Kingdom, (UK), USA, Germany, and Canada where the bonds were marketed to Ghanaians in the Diaspora. In June 2008, Mawuli made a presentation to the members of Parliament at Ghana’s Parliament House to defend the need for raising local retail finance for developmental projects. Mawuli holds an MSc in Finance.

Charles Kwame Asare
Board Member

Mr. Charles Kwame Asare was appointed to the UMB Board of Directors on 15th September, 2020. He is a trained banker with over 30 years experience in senior management and executive leadership positions in financial and corporate institutions in Africa and the USA.

He was the Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) from 2013 to 2017, a period that saw phenomenal growth and transformation of GACL. Under his leadership, GACL envisioned and successfully secured private project financing to execute the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) Terminal 3 Project, to position KIA as an aviation hub in West Africa. From 2003 to 2007, he was the Chief Financial Officer for Greater Philadelphia Health Action Incorporated, a USA managed healthcare organization. He served as the Director General of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) in Ghana from 1998 to 2001. From 1994 to 1998, he was Vice President of HSBC Equator Bank and provided structured finance, advisory and fund management services, to companies and governments in West Africa. He also worked at Ecobank Ghana Limited from 1990 to 1994 as Assistant General Manager responsible for the Corporate Banking Department. Mr. Asare had his formal banking training at First National Bank of Boston in 1985 and rose to the position of Assistant Vice President in 1990 when he was recruited by Ecobank Ghana Limited to return to Ghana.

Mr. Asare also serves as a Member of the Board Directors of CDH Investment Bank Limited, Malawi and has held several board and committee positions on local and international organizations including, Ghana International Bank in England, International Social Security Association (ISSA), Switzerland, Ghana’s Millennium Challenge Compact 2 Team, Airports Council International (Africa), CAL Bank Limited, Ghana Stock Exchange Ghana, Indebank in Malawi, and Golden Beach Hotels Limited.

Mr. Charles Kwame Asare holds an MBA from Tuck Business School, Dartmouth College, USA and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Haverford College, USA. He currently works as a private business consultant and is married with two daughters.

Mr. Tanko Nuhu Yakubu
Board Member

A businessman with several years’ involvement in the Ghanaian market setting, Tanko Nuhu Yakubu has a desire for achievement in competitive commercial environments. He runs the biggest mobile phone and accessories business in the Northern Region of Ghana, trading from the central business district in Tamale.
In the formal space, he has accumulated nearly two decades of continuous service in the financial sector. In his immediate past occupation, he was the Northern Regional Coordinator of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) between 2007 and 2010. In this pioneering position, he laid the framework for the launching of the institution in the region, and was the focal person in the government’s efforts to lessen rural and urban poverty in that part of the country.

Before that, he was the manager of the West Mamprusi Community Bank, Walewale, from 2000 to 2005, having previously worked at the Ghana Cooperative Bank between 1989 and 2000, where he served his last two years as a branch manager.
He holds a Master of Philosophy degree from the University for Development Studies, Tamale, and a Bachelor’s degree in Botany with Zoology from the University of Ghana, Legon.
He has had widespread training in banking and management at the National Banking College, the Ghana Microfinance Institutions Network (GHAMFIN) and comparable high-profile establishments, and his specific areas of concentration comprise microfinance, SME development and retail banking. Born in 1961, he is married with five children.

Ms. Evelyn Duku
Board Member

Evelyn Duku is founding partner and practice manager for Depps Law Consult Limited. She is a member of the Ghana Bar Association and brings to bear 20 years of experience in legal work, marketing, banking and finance. Her core competencies are Corporate Advisory Services, Change Management, Leadership and Negotiation Skills.

Prior to setting up Depps Law Consult Limited, Evelyn had a five year stint as Managing Director for Kent House Securities Limited. Her previous roles include Manager, Banking Services, Manager Corporate Banking and Head of Asset Management at First Atlantic Bank.

She had her First Degree BA (Hons) in English and History from University of Ghana, Legon, LLB from the University of London and a Postgraduate Diploma from Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK. She holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Wales, Cardiff. She obtained her BL from the Ghana School of Law.

Mr. Kwasi Okoh
Board Member

Mr. Kwasi Okoh is currently Managing Director of Aluworks Limited, the only aluminium cold rolling mill in Ghana. He has been CEO of Dannex Limited a pharmaceutical manufacturing and marketing company in Ghana; CEO of Unilever Tanzania in East Africa, an FMCG manufacturing and marketing company based in Dar Salaam; and CEO of West Africa Popular Foods Nigeria, a joint venture company that he set up for Unilever in partnership with Dangote Limited, the commodities giant in Nigeria.
Prior to then, he was Customer Development Manager for Unilever in Africa, the Middle East and in Turkey, a job which took him particularly to all parts of Africa. He has had extensive managerial experience having served with Unilever for 32 years in various capacities and in many different countries including several top executive positions.

Mr. Okoh considers himself to be of a qualified and proficient general management persuasions, having been thoroughly schooled by Unilever in managerial practice. He is by formal profession a Chartered Accountant and member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana; with an MBA from Strathclyde University, Glasgow, Scotland; and is a product of the School of Administration, University of Ghana, Legon. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors in Ghana.
In addition to having managed several national sports organisations in his spare time, Mr. Okoh has held Directorships in many companies in Ghana and abroad, and currently is a Director of Aluworks Limited, Research International, Expandable Polystyrene Products and Trading Limited, WT-2 Company Limited and Immediate Past Chairman of Board of Governors of Achimota School.

Noel Addo
Board Member

Mr. Noel Addo was appointed to the UMB Board on March 10, 2021. Noel is an Investment Banking professional with several years of experience in Corporate Finance, Research, Fund Management, Asset Management, Commercial Banking as well as Pensions Administration in the Ghanaian financial system.
With his vast work experience, Noel is a subject matter expert in the areas of Corporate Financial Advisory, Structured Finance, Retail Banking, Investment Research and Business Advisory Services.

Noel has held various executive roles in the Ghanaian Banking and Pensions industry. Up until March 2017, he was the Deputy Director General responsible for Investment and Development at the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT). Prior to that, he was the Deputy General Manager at HFC Investments Ltd. (now Republic Investments Ltd.) – a subsidiary of HFC Bank Ghana (now Republic Bank Ghana) and then the Executive Director at SAS Finance Group. He also served on a number of Boards of financial institutions.
He was educated at the University of Ghana, Legon where he earned a Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Statistics and Sociology, Masters in Economics and an MBA in Finance. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants-Ghana (ICAG).

Nana Dwemoh Benneh
Executive Board Member

Nana Dwemoh Benneh has considerable local and international expertise in banking.

He worked briefly with Merchant Bank Ltd after his graduate studies in Economics and Philosophy from the University of Ghana in June 1996. Whilst in Legon he was a resident member of Commonwealth Hall.

In September 1998 Nana Dwemoh moved to join Barclays Bank on Barclays Plc’s International Business Leadership Program designed to develop Business Leaders with global and significant Pan African experience.

Whilst with Barclays he had the opportunity to work in various management roles across a number of countries in Africa and the UK. His 15 year career with Barclays Bank spanned leadership roles across Africa. He was appointed as Head of Retail in Uganda and was part of the Management team for Barclays in that country. There he led the Retail team to expand their footprint and portfolio of customers. From there he moved to Kenya as East Africa Regional Sales Manager with oversight over Consumer sales machinery in the Banks East African businesses. Subsequently in 2003 Nana Dwemoh was appointed as Director of the SME Local Business Segment for Barclays Africa based in Johannesburg, South Africa with responsibility for the Banks SME strategy for Africa. In 2005 Nana Dwemoh moved to London to work in Corporate Banking in Barclays Plc as Sales Director for International Trade and Cash Solutions Barclays PLC, London. In 2007, Nana returned to Barclays Bank Ghana as the Consumer Banking Director and is credited with consolidating the gains in the Bank’s consumer banking business post the Bank’s rapid expansion of the franchise that was undertaken between 2006 and 2007. Nana Dwemoh joined Stanbic Ghana Ltd as Executive Director for Personal and Business Banking in October 2013. There he led the team in significantly growing market share and profitability for the Bank’s Personal and Business Banking franchise over the last seven years. Nana holds an Executive MBA from London Business School. He is also a member of the International Academy of Retail Banking. He is a proud Akora of Achimota School and member of the 1989 year group. Nana is married and blessed with four children.

Nii Amankra Kwashie Tetteh

Nii Amankra Tetteh was appointed the Executive Director- Business of the Bank on June 09, 2021. In this role Nii is responsible for the Bank’s revenue streams from the core business units. He is charged with revenue growth to meet the Banks stated medium term strategy through superior value delivery and dominance in key segments.
Nii Amankra’s banking career started in Standard Chartered Bank in August of 2001 where he grew in the Wholesale Bank from a Trade Operations assistant to a star Corporate Services Manager. In February of 2006, following his passion for SME Banking, Nii joined Barclays Bank as a Business Development Manager for the newly formed Local Business Team. In this role Nii pioneered many SME innovations including the Business Club concept as a B2B marketing tool.

He progressed within the Barclays Bank Ghana leadership; with appointments in the Retail Banking Business in 2009 as a Cluster Manager, through to Head of Retail Distribution in 2010 and appointment as the Head of Retail Business in 2013. Stellar performance led to Regional responsibility in 2014, as Head for Branch Optimization covering Barclays Africa’s 12 Markets outside of South Africa. Nii Amankra returned to Barclays Bank of Ghana Limited, Accra in September of 2016 as Director, Retail & Business Banking a role he held until November, 2017. This period was marked by historic performance outcomes for the Retail Business in the year of its Centenary, 2017.
Nii Amankra was then appointed Managing Director/CEO of Bayport Savings and Loans PLC, on the 1st of December 2017, superintending the strategic consolidation, turnaround and delivery of its best results in its 18- year history in Ghana. She is also in the final stage of gaining membership to the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, London UK and is a Chevening Scholar.
