Happy New Year! I hope, like us at UMB, the New Year has started on a positive note for you. As usual, I have a lot of exciting news to share with you this month.
On Wednesday 23rd December 2015, our annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols came off at the forecourt of our Head Office in the SSNIT Emporium. The event was marked with scripture readings and a performance of selected Christmas carols by the UMB Choir and a host of other talented singers. The highlight of the evening was a performance of a Christmas carol by members of the Executive Committee of the bank including myself. This was a light hearted moment where I got to practice my singing skills.
While we fully participated in the Christmas festivities with our loved ones, we also worked assiduously on rolling out our new core banking application and I am happy to inform you that we successfully launched this new platform on January 4, 2016. This new platform will significantly enhance our ability to serve you with speed and generally lead to significant improvements in your experience with the bank. While there were few disruptions to our service during the transition, I am happy to inform you that the transition has been seamless and we are excited about this upgrade to our services and operations.
Earlier this month, we also welcomed six students from Harvard Business School as part of a required first-year course at Harvard Business School called FIELD, which stands for Field Immersion Experiences for Leadership Development. UMB is one of 156 FIELD Global Partners in 13 countries around the world. The students conducted research to ascertain the banking needs of tertiary students in Ghana and presented their final recommendations to the management of the bank. We are looking forward to reviewing their recommendations and crafting an implementation plan to suit the needs of the bank.
