Message from the CEO

Dear Business Partner,

Welcome to another wonderful month! As usual, the month of September is the Back to School season and I would like to use this opportunity to inform those of you who are parents or students that you can pay school fees at any UMB branch nationwide or look out for our collection stands on various university campuses.

Last month, we organized the second SME clinic on the effective cash cycle management of businesses for some of our customers who manage Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in and around Kumasi. As always, UMB, your trusted business partner, deems it important to constantly engage with you, our valued customers and exchange relevant information that will positively impact your personal and business finances.

I am happy to inform you that the SME Clinic train will be stopping over in Tamale on the twelfth of this month for another productive session with our subject matter experts. I am confident that the participants from in and around the Tamale metropolis will find the event very beneficial and also give us useful feedback that will help us improve on our products and service delivery.

Finally, in our quest to continue to impact our community in diverse ways, the Bank’s staff will be undertaking a clean-up exercise at the Accra/Borla Beach behind the Independence Square on Saturday 7th September, 2019. This will be the maiden edition of the UMB Cleans Ghana” campaign by the UMB Foundation with support from Zoomlion Ghana Limited. Through this exercise, we hope to drive the key message in our community for a cleaner environment and to create a healthy living culture in the mindset of the general public.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful month. We look forward to conveniently serving you with S.P.E.E.D. mostly through our array of e-banking products and services.

Sincerely,

Message from the CEO

Dear Business Partner,

Happy new month everyone! Last month ended on a great note as we honoured our high performing back office and front office staff for the first quarter of 2019 at a modest S.P.E.E.D. Champions ceremony in our head office. On behalf of Management, I presented a citation and cash prize to them for  excelling at their various roles.

For those who may not know, the S.P.E.E.D. Champion initiative is a quarterly internal reward scheme that honours our members of staff who project our core values of Speed, Passion, Excellence, Ethics and Diligence in the discharge of their duties. The quarterly S.P.E.E.D. Champion reward scheme is one of our Bank’s initiatives to encourage staff members to project our S.P.E.E.D. core values and live the Ideal UMB Way.

UMB, being a long-standing  partner to most large and small scale businesses in Ghana, will continue to provide superior and innovative financial and non-financial services to our cherished customers. That said, as part of our continuous customer engagements, we hosted a cross-section of our SME customers in our head office for an interactive seminar where we shared information and took them through prudent financial practices with focus on best practices in managing the cash cycle of a business. We had in attendance about one hundred participants drawn from all our branches in the Greater Accra region.

Just like many other businesses, UMB continues to face new challenges in our industry as the swiftness and scale of change are unmatched. In order to overcome these challenges, we are undergoing a bank-wide organizational transformation that includes initiatives such as employee reorientation to reinforce our brand’s mission and vision as well as our core values of Speed, Passion, Excellence, Ethics and Diligence (S.P.E.E.D). Such developments will enable us to become swifter at detecting and tackling changes in the industry.

Let me end by reiterating our Bank’s full commitment to reinforcing our competences in order to exceed your high expectations. We appreciate your business and look out for exciting new developments in UMB. Do have a great month ahead!

Sincerely,

Message from the CEO

Dear Business Partner,

A very warm welcome to you as we kick off the second half of 2019 and I am pleased that UMB, your indigenous bank of choice, is a proud sponsor of the live broadcast of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nation in Egypt on your local radio and television channels covering the length and breadth of Ghana. This is our Bank’s way of ensuring that every Ghanaian enjoys the beautiful game of football while demonstrating our support for the Ghana Blackstars. It is our fervent hope that the team bring home the coveted trophy after close to forty decades of drought.

Before I continue, allow me to recap a few of the activities in the month of June; as it turned out to be busy, here at UMB. As part of our Customer Appreciation activities, we hosted three Financial Literacy programmes at our Tema East branch, UMB Centre for Businesses in Kasoa and Madina for our valued customers and prospects in and around the catchment areas. For us at UMB, these periodic customer engagements are very necessary as it gives us the opportunity to share knowledge and new ideas as well as gather feedback from our valued customers that will significantly help us to improve our service and product offering.

I am pleased to announce that UMB was adjudged the Best Bank Award in Cyber Security Risk Management, for the third successive year, at the 9th Ghana Information Technology and Telecom Awards (GITTA) held in Accra. Also, myself and our Ag. Head of I.T., Mr. Sylvester Apedoe were adjudged the Emerging ICT Driven CEO of the Year and CIO of the Year, respectively. We dedicate the awards to our cherished customers and it is our promise to continuously exceed their expectations with our new and existing products; as well as in our service delivery.

Over the years, UMB has contributed significantly in youth development through educational support in Ghana. And as part of our Bank’s efforts to increase our corporate social responsibility efforts and in our quest to continue impacting our society, we hosted a section of students from the 5 Garrison Education Centre, Burma Camp at our Head office for the maiden UMB Open Day Tour.

The UMB Open Day Tour was an insightful experience for myself and my colleagues; and especially the students as they got first-hand knowledge of some the back-end operations of a typical bank. It will also help guide their future career aspirations. We, at UMB, intend to extend this opportunity to other schools in order to impact and impart knowledge to the future generations.

On that note, I look forward to a wonderful month this July. Thank you for choosing to bank with us and for your continued loyalty to UMB!

Sincerely,
