Welcome to the month of April. For some of you, this month brings with it renewed faith as you celebrate the new life, hope and love that Easter brings to you and your significant others.
On March 9, WAEC held the annual West African Examinations Council Excellence Awards at the Sakyi Asare Menako Hall in Accra and UMB, as a sponsor, presented the sponsorship package to the top three (3) awardees. For emerging the Overall Best 2017 WASSCE Student, Ms. Jochebed Adwoa Sutherland, former student of Holy Child Senior High School, was presented with a brand new laptop and a full scholarship to pursue any programme of choice in any University in Ghana. It is worthy of mention that, Ms. Jochebed Adwoa Sutherland becomes the fifth (5th) consecutive Ghanaian student to top the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Excellence Awards. Also, a brand new laptop each was presented to Ms. Audrey Emefa Awuttey, also a former student of Holy Child Senior High School and Rachel Amaning Kwarteng, a former student of Aburi Girls’ Senior High School for being adjudged the first and second runner-up, respectively. All three best students are currently students at the University of Ghana Medical School and on behalf of the bank and UMB Foundation, I wish them the very best in their education. I wish to reiterate that, this kind of support is just but a few of the avenues we use to give back to our community and with your continuous support, UMB is committed to carrying on to do much more in the future.
As many of you may have observed, we recently published our audited 2017 Financial Statements in the newspapers. Some notable highlights include a 151% increase in Profit Before Tax and 39% increase in Customer Deposits. It truly was a record year in terms of financial performance and I would like to thank all our customers and stakeholders for their unflinching support that allows us to do so well.
