The spread of coronavirus continues to adversely impact the operations of several businesses. Consequently, UMB’s total operating income declined by 6.5% year-on-year to GHS115.8m as at Half Year 2020. However, our unique operational efficiency strategies resulted in a 10.4% reduction in expenses, year-on-year. In effect, our Bank recorded a Profit After Tax of GHS16m, which represented a growth of 194% on a year-on-year basis. Customer deposits also increased by 31% year-on-year to GHS2.2bn while our Assets also trended upwards by 25% year-on-year to GHS3.3bn. These positive key indicators attest to the fact that UMB is a resilient bank even in the face of eventualities occasioned by a crisis.
As the world transitions to the new normal during this coronavirus pandemic, we continue to focus on serving you better by ensuring that you have access to safe and convenient banking during this period. In a related development, we have introduced the UMB Visa contactless cards that allow you to perform safe and secure payments at contactless-enabled POS devices. The “tap to pay” enhancement will limit the handling of cash, reduce the instances of card cloning or card swapping and so much more.
