UMB Human Resource Director Adjudged 2019 Best Achiever in Human Resources

The Director of Human Resource at Universal Merchant Bank (UMB), Ms. Akwelley Bulley-Kwakye has been adjudged the Best Achiever in Human Resources at the 2019 edition of the Feminine Ghana Achievement Awards held in Accra.

This was the fifth edition of the annual event organised by the Business Executive, a monthly business magazine published from Accra with circulation in both Ghana and Nigeria.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Bulley-Kwakye expressed her appreciation to the organizers for recognizing her endeavours in human capital development and dedicated the award to her family, colleagues and staff members at UMB.

The annual Awards event is meant to recognize and celebrate female achievers from diverse backgrounds and sectors in Ghana who have exhibited exemplary professional and personal conduct as well as record tremendous achievements in their professional role.

UMB Launches the UMB Academy

Universal Merchant Bank, on Thursday April 11, 2019, launched the UMB Academy at the Head Office in Airport City with a cross-section of UMB Executive Committee members, Heads of Departments/Units and Managers in attendance.

The UMB Academy has been designed to offer a proper and organized learning and development opportunity for staff members in a bid to significantly improve the value of the Bank’s human resource.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of UMB, Mr. Benjamin Amenumey, in his remark expressed his confidence in the role of a structured learning and development centre and its positive impact in developing the competence and skillset of the Bank’s existing and new members of staff.

The official logo of the UMB Academy was also unveiled at the event.

Ministry of Information Pays Courtesy Call on Acting CEO of UMB

On Tuesday, March 19, 2019, a Ministry of Information delegation led by Deputy Minister, Hon. Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei paid a courtesy call on the Acting Chief Executive Officer of UMB, Mr. Benjamin Amenumey.

The Deputy Minister was accompanied by the Acting Chief Director, the Public Relations Officer and other representatives.

The visit was primarily to show appreciation to the Bank for supporting the 2018 National Policy Summits under the auspices of the Ministry of Information as well as discuss  possible collaborations in the near future. 

The 2018 Summits were held in Kumasi, Tamale and Takoradi in a bid to actively engage Ghanaians from all walks of life on government’s numerous policies and projects.

UMB Presents Full Scholarship To 2018 Overall Best WASSCE Student

Universal Merchant Bank (UMB), has presented a full scholarship to Wilhermina Opoku the overall best student at the 2018 West African Senior School Certificate Examination organized by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). This happened at the WAEC Distinction Awards held on the 8th March, 2019 to acknowledge and reward the top performing students in the 2018 WASSCE.

In his goodwill message, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of UMB, Mr. Benjamin Amenumey stated that since 2014 when UMB first partnered WAEC, the Bank is still very honoured to be a major sponsor of the WAEC Distinction Awards, which rewards top performing students of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination. 

Mr. Amenumey also spoke about UMB’s strong commitment to the development of the youth by contributing to better education in Ghana. This educational scholarship is one of the several ways the Bank is contributing to national development, specifically in the education sector as well as offering brilliant students an opportunity to hone their talents and realise their desired dreams.

The full educational scholarship will cater for Wilhermina’s tuition, accommodation and books for the entire duration of her university programme. She was also given a brand new laptop and some branded gift items from UMB. Two other students, Sarpong Brago Afrifa and Imelda Naa Ayorkor Adjei who were the second and third top performers in the 2018 WASSCE respectively, also received a laptop each and some branded souvenirs from UMB

In attendance was the Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, WAEC officials, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service and several other dignitaries. 

The overall best WASSCE student, Wilhermina Opoku expressed her sincere appreciation to UMB for the full scholarship and the honour bestowed upon her and her family.

UMB Organises Trade and Treasury Colloquium for Exporters and Importers

UMB held a special colloquium on Trade and Treasury for clients and prospects who are in the export and import business at the plush Swiss Spirit Hotel (Alisa Hotel) in Accra on February 20, 2019.

The colloquium is the first of a two-part series with the primary objective of discussing relevant topics that will enrich export business operations and investments of participants. Participants were made up of the Banks’ clientele, as well as prospective customers who are into the export and import business.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of UMB, Mr. Benjamin Amenumey in his welcome address, reiterated that UMB is in pole position to further intensify financial and advisory support to sustainable small and medium scale businesses.

The key presentations at the colloquium were delivered by Mr. Kevin Adarkwah, UMB’s Director of Treasury and Mrs. Rejoice King, the Head of Trade at the Bank. The presentations focused on the huge opportunities offered by the Bank’s Trade and Treasury bouquets of products and services and how the participants can tap into it to simplify, scale and sustainably grow their various businesses in the export and import sector.

At the end of the colloquium, participants expressed their gratitude to UMB for such a meaningful session.
